Jó ízlés, rossz ízlés

Sándor Radnóti, critic and professor of aesthetics, examines the reasons behind the rise and fall of the concept of taste. His lecture summarizes the comments of all significant philosophers on this issue from the middle of the 17th century to the end of the 18th century. Radnóti reveals the tension within the double meaning of aesthetics: taste as an individual judgment and as a common sense. According to his argument, 'taste' can only be a philosophical category if it is postulated to be homogeneous. Because 'taste' is subjective and its antonym is not 'tasteless' but 'a different taste', it is a sociological category, and cannot have a philosophical context.
